INTRODUCING THE NEW SEROLA SACROILIAC BELT
The new Serola Sacroiliac Belt is the same belt in basic function but with a significant change in comfort and grip. The first layer is changed from cotton to an open-cell urethane foam.
The urethane layer has several advantages over the original cotton layer. The open-cell urethane is breathable, more comfortable, moisture-wicking, and hypoallergenic (so it can be worn directly against the skin). Plus, it conforms to body curves better. Due to it’s tacky nature it grips so well that it will not move - even on the most active people.
The problem with most sacroiliac belts is that they move upward on the body because there is no way to attach them. The original Serola Sacroiliac Belt addressed this problem with two 1.5 X 6 inch strips of a tacky vinyl netting, but this has a couple of drawbacks:
- First, it can irritate some people’s skin.
- Second, although it holds fairly well on most, it will move upward on very active people or women with curvy hips. The advantage of the urethane foam, in this respect, is that it holds fast and will not move at all.
The problem with the urethane foam is that it is elastic in nature. We have overcome this by sewing a non-elastic 2” wide loop on top of the urethane
composite, giving this layer a non-elastic function.
The purpose of this non-elastic inner layer is to mimic the function of the sacroiliac ligaments by creating a stop-point at the joint’s normal end of range of motion.
The Serola Belt’s elastic outer layer gives compression and resilience within the range of motion established by the non-elastic inner layer.
It is important to realize that too much or too little motion can create dysfunction of the sacroiliac joint. Together, these two layers make the Serola SI Belt the only support designed to normalize the function of the sacroiliac joint.
